The Church

Zion Lutheran Church is a worshiping, learning, witnessing, and serving community of baptized persons, among whom the Word is proclaimed and the Sacraments are celebrated according to the Gospel.

About 350 people of richly diverse backgrounds, coming from Portland, Connecticut, and surrounding towns, are joined together in fellowship at Zion.  We invite you to join us.

Join us as we worship together with the members of Faith Lutheran Church, Middletown at Portland's Riverfront Park.( Map) A potluck picnic will follow the worship service. Casual dress, flip-flops and shorts encouraged! Bring a dish to share and a lawn chair. . . Invite a friend!!

Church Directory:  Zion is preparing an updated church directory and church census.  Phil Olson is leading the charge.  This is a huge effort and certainly not a one-man job.  WE NEED YOU! If you are willing to assist, please contact Phil at church on Sunday or email him at prolson121@comcast.net

The Altar Guild will arrange to have flowers on the altar in memory of a loved one or in honor of an occasion. Call the church.

Consider purchasing gift cards through Zion's Scrip Program. Pay face value for the card, and the retailer donates a percentage to Zion. Contact Rick Borg for details.

Grace Guild is collecting can top tabs (all kinds: soda, beer, cat & dog food, fruit, etc.) for the Ronald McDonald House; and Campbell soup UPC codes and lids (see Outreach for details) for the Cromwell Children's Home. The Guild is also collecting gently used clothes for the Food Bank.

Ushers and lectors needed.  Please sign up by calling the church office, or signing up on the bulletin board at the entrance to the church.

Drivers needed for St. Luke's Eldercare, 860-347-5661.

The Food Bank needs your help.  They are serving more than 100 people per week. Please drop off donations (food and/or clothing) in the coat room.

Sunny Hill Preschool Registration:  Sunny Hill Preschool is accepting registrations for three and four year olds.  Call the church for registration details. E-mail the Preschool at:  dtalerico5@gmail.com Sunny Hill welcomes volunteers; 860-342-2860, x12. Please, leave a message.

Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study Classes meets after worship.  All are welcome.

Choir (7:15 p.m.) & Chime Choir (6:30 p.m.) rehearse on Thursday evenings.  New members always welcome..

Confirmation Classes meet every other Sunday.  Call the church for more details
